Chaplain Defined
A chaplain is someone who provides spiritual, emotional, and pastoral care.
Their primary duties include:
- Offering spiritual guidance, advising, and compassionate listening.
- Providing comfort during illness, grief, crisis, or major life transitions.
- Leading or facilitating religious services, prayers, and sacraments when requested.
- Supporting people during difficult times.
- Advising organizations on ethical and spiritual matters and helping foster compassion and resilience within the community.
- The purpose of a chaplain is to care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—by offering hope, encouragement, and a compassionate presence during both everyday life and times of crisis. While many chaplains are ordained clergy, others are trained and endorsed by their faith communities to provide specialized pastoral care outside a traditional church setting. Help people find and grow in their walk with Jesus.
